PACIFIC MANGROVES: Best place in Guatemala to watch marine and mangrove related birds such as herons, pelicans, ducks and many other marine birds. This mangrove forest lines the coastline and then wetlands continue extending into the country for many miles.

BIRDING IN MONTERRICO / PACIFIC COAST: Birding in the Monterrico area is mainly focused on the feeding area for aquatic birds like the American White Pelican, Great Egret, Wood Storck, Roseate Spoonbill, Blue Heron, White Ibis, Northern Jacana, to name just a few. By creating a protected area at Monterrico, not only the sea turtles benefit, but all of the wide variety of species which inhabit the mangroves as well.
