Experience the adventure of hiking an active volcano. The Pacaya Volcano National Park is located only 45 kms (27 miles) south of Guatemala City. It is a permanently active volcano and has been like that since the 1966's. The hike is only 2.5 hours to see recent lava flows and experience the earth literally moving under your feet. The volcano offers impressive views of three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. Its summit is at 2,700 meters above sea level (10,000 feet). You can also make the ascent by horse. Hiking the Pacaya Volcano is one of the best adventure experiences in Guatemala.

--What you can expect—
Departing from your hotel in Guatemala City, you’ll head to San Vicente de Pacaya, where the visitor center of Pacaya Volcano National Park is located and the hike begins. After some minutes of hike, you will arrive at a view point where you will be able to see the Calderas Lagoon and the Agua, Fuego y Acatenango volcanoes. Continuing on the hiking trail that passes through a mountain forest with unique vegetation, you will arrive at La Meseta, from where you will be able to watch the main crater and the lava rivers. After the hiking adventure you will be taken back to you hotel in Guatemala City.
