Textile Tourism
Textile Tourism is a niche of Cultural Tourism, and cultural tourism is conceived as a form of alternative tourism that embodies the consummation of the commercialization of the culture.
Chosen elements of any culture become products offered in the tourist market. The WTO defines Cultural Tourism as a movement of people with a cultural motivation such as studies trip, artistic representations, festivals or other cultural events, visits to monuments and places, folklore, art and peregrinations. Cultural tourism's focus is on the cultural aspects of a visitor's experience.
Guatemala has an incredible cultural diversity, with innumerable cultural manifestations. Guatemala has 23 ethnic groups, including mestizos, maya indigenous and no mayan groups like Garífunas and Xincas. All this groups still have their own culture, language and millenarian traditions. The mayan groups still wore traditional clothes, and they are part of its identity. The Mayan weaving and costumes are colorful and reflect the individual creativity, community differences and social hierarchy.
In Guatemala the textile tourism has the objective to promote, respect and teach cultural, handmade and artistic traditions of all regions of the country.
